About Braintree

What We Do

We help online businesses process credit card payments by providing a merchant account, payment gateway, recurring billing and credit card storage. We work with companies primarily based in the U.S. but do have several large international customers. We’re unlike others in the industry; we think and do things differently and are frequently told by our customers that we’re a breath of fresh air.

History & Status

Braintree was founded in 2007, and we’ve grown faster than we ever thought possible. Our team is now nearly 20 strong, we’re profitable, and in 2009 we processed more than 1 billion in credit card volume. We are also a Level 1 PCI DSS provider. We are very fortunate to count among our customers some of the largest, most reputable, and fastest growing merchants in the U.S. We’ve worked unbelievably hard to deliver value and it’s paid off.

Team & Talent

Individual talent and teamwork is very important to us. Since starting, our most significant achievement has been getting the right people on our team. We’re getting better everyday at improving our hiring practices, refining our core principles, and providing the right opportunities that drive enthusiasm. We believe that there are few things as rewarding as working with other highly talented people.

Principles & Culture

It’s not what we do that defines us, it’s how we do it. Principles drive behavior, and behavior creates culture. Principles we hold dear include excellence, self awareness / improvement, initiative / ownership, virtue, teamwork, and problem solving / creativity.

Our Goals & Aspirations

  • To become the undisputed, #1 recommended payment gateway provider by software developers.
  • To be recognized by our customers as the best payments provider in the industry.
  • To create a work environment and culture so rewarding that we become a magnet for the most talented people.

What Makes Us Tick

  • Doing things right. It’s just part of our DNA. We want to do things better, more efficiently, smarter and ultimately, provide something useful.
  • It’s the means, not the ends that drive and interest us. We could be involved in any industry, doing just about anything, and our motivations would stay the same. We’re competitive and love to win. We thrive on positive customer feedback. We desire to improve whatever it is we’re doing.

I love fixing things, piecing the puzzle, and working with small teams that get stuff done. I don’t get out nearly enough and am always in the middle of at least 6 books.
