Hierarchy is the most commonly used structure in organizing human efforts. There are a lot of benefits to hierarchies including its near infinite scalability and ability to accommodate different talents, preferences and experience. The drawbacks to hierarchies include a substantial talent tax in the form of management where the best people are managers, not doers, and the probability of disconnectedness, politics, bureaucracy, slowness, and losing talent is much higher.
At Braintree, we embrace small and flat and seek in people a unique combination of skills and personal characteristics. Our goal is to create a self-sustaining ecosystem. Our best people are doers, not managers. We expect everyone to hold themselves accountable for their own work and to abide by our core principles which are:
If this is the type of environment that you resonates with you, please contact us at hr@getbraintree.com
We are a small but mighty team looking to get more mighty. We are looking for someone exceptional because we believe that putting together deliberately smaller teams of all-stars is the best way to build software.
We are essentially a startup. But in a good way. We don’t have all the startup drama. Nor the long hours. Nor any outside investment. And we are profitable.
We are building interesting software in a space without a lot of interesting software: payment solutions.
We are doing greenfield development. Mostly in Rails. But we will leverage other technologies appropriately. For instance, we expect that our system can take advantage of specific features in languages like Erlang and Clojure.
Our challenge is the same as every development shop: build the best software in our space.
Our approach is to hire great developers and place them into an environment that is conducive to hacking and painting. To do this we offer all that you should expect: great salaries, benefits, and team members.
We are not looking for any rock stars. We want to hire super talented people who are more interested in the band’s music than breaking furniture in hotel rooms.
We value aptitude over experience. We also value maintainable teams and codebases, feedback loops, and we prefer essence to ceremony.
And though some of our best developers work remotely, we are building the foundation of a Chicago-based team that will be highly collaborative. This is as much an opportunity to define the team as it is to be a part of it.
If our team and values sound like a good fit for you, please contact us at hr@getbraintree.com.
